On 17 May 1791 the autocratic King Christian the Seventh gave his permission for a brick factory to be operated at Nybøl Nor. The first brick maker was the smallholder Peter Andresen, who already ran a small farm at the address. Then came many more brick makers to the area with its major deposits of tertiary clay.
Petersen Tegl is now run by the seventh and eighth generation in line from Peter Andresen. As one of the few companies in the world, mastering the art of firing bricks with charcoal, Petersen Tegl produces 18 million bricks per year. The company has significant exports primarily to Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK.
It is less than 20 km to Petersen Tegl from the E45 Motorway and less than 15 km from Sønderborg Airport. Visit the brick works and see the comprehensive exhibition of samples of brickwork from the collection with a variety of bonds.
